what is the one thing that annoys you about sat-nav units?
Stroopwafel asked:
Is it the speed and late reponses? ie: turning left when you are already at the destination and parked… or does the voice remind you of your mother nagging?? what ticks you off about sat nav, and what would you like improved?

about what now? lol
They always try to send you on the M6 toll! GRRRRR! For the last bloody time! I do not want to go on the M6 toll!
I downloaded Homers voice onto mine and everytime i miss a turn it shouts DOH!!! really loud, which is fine when on my own but when taking a client out to lunch I seem a bit of a Homer myself!
Id really like it if when you ignored her she then slagged you off for being a prat. it would liven things up a little. after all I bet she gets called all sorts…
When it tries to get you to drive the wrong way on one-way streets, ignores dead-ends and in our case the fact it takes almost as long as the journey to program the stupid thing.
Whay annoys me most about them is when she says take the next left, or turn left. When actually it’s not a turning, the road just vears left.
I then panic thinking I’ve missed a left turn!
the voice… can’t stand the voice… even the other options… still irritating…
having to smash the window of the car to get one
The response time. They just process to slow.
Specially if you take a wrong turn and they need to recalculate. WAY TOO SLOW
i **** the voice and the constant reminders and the light when its dark is so annoying.
Well I do not have one, but I would be very worried about the fact that it can send you up a one way street, or on a railway track, I think I will stick to my Hubby, he gets me there every time, :}
Other people who use them and pay too much attention to looking at the pretty pictures AND NOT ENOUGH TO THE ROAD.
I was almost wiped out by some crazy woman (I’m female so not sexist) on the M1 who was too intent on watching the screen of her sat nav to notice me.
the late responses yeah and the voice i know u can change them but does my tree in
I already know how to get where I need to go.
I would not trust one of these little POS things to get me somewhere anyways.
I would rather use a map, and know where I want (need) to be.
What really bugs me about them is when I am heading to do something and I get stuck begins someone reasoning with there Garmin.
Trying to get there but you spend 2 hours prepping the thing, then 1/2 the time correcting missed turns.
I rarly miss a turn when I use a map
The way they fall off the windscreen just at a critical moment and one we had (we called her Effal, i.e. Ethel) who got really ratty if we used local knowledge and ignored her instructions - it was the tone of voice Make a U-turn NOW (or shall tell your father when he gets in and you will be sent to your room without supper!). That was a Garmin. Our Tom Tom (Jane) she’s much more patient.
the way they beep in speed camera areas,
the way they say recalculating when you followed them in the first place.
The repetitive dead tone
try using a map!!!!!!!!!
Maps not updated as needed is the most annoying thing about sat nav units. I am a truck driver my company is experimenting with the Driver Tech system. It shows where the driver is in real time, but there are customers that the system cannot recognize or guides the driver to a road that was not designed for a tractor trailer. Sat nav units need to be integrated with google earth or some other satellite photography, so roads can be updated as needed
