What is the best portable sat nav system for the car?
Tony T asked:
I am going to buy my wife a portable sat nav for her car, but am not sure what one to get her. I will be putting speed cameras on it so thinking of tomtom one or road angel 6000. Would the tomtom be better for directions than the road angel and would the road angel give better warnings for speed cameras. It hasnt got to be any of these just what i have noticed.

I always say Tom Tom, most of the drivers I work with say the same.
i use tomtom on my phone work a treat bit of a pain if they shut the road your supposed to use though it insists you use it and wont take NO ITS SHUT for an answer (m25 was shut yesterday took 2 hour to talk it out of using it) got there in the end
tom tom 510, cpc have an offer on.
I tried a few when renting cars and decided to buy the GARMEN. Very happy with it.
Awww thats a nice present!I recommend the Tom tom 710 as this has speed cameras already on it and free updates and all the extras you need. Its easy to update any changes and its portable in a little zip case.It has a 3D image or map choice and you can even download celebrity voices to direct you (my kids love John Cleese) you also get a handsfree connection to your mobile phone and a microphone.Touch screen control and easy to use-so far i have only had one mistake of a closed petrol station but other than that it has been very accurate.
Hi, I.m a truck driver and use my tomtom one most days, I do not have a problem with it at all. Some people tend to blame their ‘nav when they get into difficulty - I would just remind you that which ever one you choose - it is only a tool to assist. Unless you know the roads well you should always have a quick look at the route it recommends and a map to satisfy yourself that it is a sensible way to get there. Tomtom ‘navs use full postcode search which is very good.
Consider the speed camera stuff as separate software which will work the same on any device - how good it is depends on whose you buy. I personally don’t use it.
i recommend a navman they are reliable look how long they have been going for they started out on boats and then progressed from there and you will find that there technology has advanced more than other satnavs on the market.
i got the navman f20
The Garmin use to be on top a few years ago but now the Tom Toms are ahead of the game as far as technology and display. I have one and a friend of mine has one, and both of us love it!
